Bardeen, a startup launched in 2020 by Artem Harutyunyan and Pascal Weinberger, is gaining significant attention for its innovative platform designed to automate repetitive knowledge work using a natural language interface. Bardeen recently secured $3 million in a new funding round, bringing its total funding to $22 million. This latest round is particularly notable as it includes strategic investments from Dropbox and HubSpot through their respective venture arms, Dropbox Ventures and HubSpot Ventures. These partnerships will not only provide capital but also significant distribution channels for Bardeen’s technology.

Bardeen’s platform is akin to “Zapier with more AI,” but with a focus on accessibility and ease of use for the average employee rather than IT departments. The platform enables users to automate complex workflows, such as converting documents to PDFs, extracting email addresses, and sending the documents to recipients—all through simple natural language commands. Unlike many AI solutions, Bardeen’s platform emphasizes repeatability, ensuring that it consistently performs tasks in the same way once they have been learned, addressing a common challenge in AI-driven automation.

The platform, which runs as a browser extension, is context-aware and capable of planning out the steps required to complete a task after receiving user instructions. It integrates with over 100 tools, including Microsoft 365, CRMs, and sales platforms, making it versatile and adaptable to various business environments.

Bardeen’s approach to AI-driven automation involves using models like Gemini for translating questions and OpenAI’s GPT models for specific automation tasks. The platform is designed to learn from usage patterns, allowing it to improve over time and make automation more efficient.

With over 300,000 users and more than 1,000 paying customers—including companies like Deel, Miro, Kearney, WPP, and 10Web—Bardeen is quickly establishing itself as a leader in the AI automation space. Its ability to consistently replicate tasks, combined with strategic backing from major tech companies, positions Bardeen as a potential game-changer in the industry, poised to outpace competitors like Zapier and UiPath.
